| The United States Team scored a decisive 8- 1 victory over the British Isles at he Broadmoor Golf Club, Colorado Springs, Colo. Mrs. Alastair Frearson earned the only point for the visitors by defeating Miss Judy Bell, 8 and 7, after the Americans had won all three foursomes matches. The Americans, five of whom were members of the victorious 1960 Team, scored remarkably low on a course considered to be a very severe test for women.
Mrs. Anne Quast Decker, the United States Champion, was credited with a 74 in the morning round of her singles and then played the first nine holes in the afternoon in 36; Mrs. Decker and Miss Bvarbara McIntire produced a 74 in the fousomes; Miss Phyllis Preuss scored 75 in singles; Miss Clifford Anne Creed a 76. The British side was largely the product of a training program sponsored by the Ladies' Golf Union for juniors. Five of the eight British players were new to Curtis Cup competition; three were still in their teens. The non- playing Captains were Mrs. Frances Stephens Smith for the British Isles and Miss Polly Riley for the United States. |
