In a very close match, the United States defeated the British Isles, 10 ½ to 7 ½, at the Royal County Down Golf Club, Newcastle, Northern Ireland. With three singles matches undetermined late on the second day, the score was tied at 7 ½ - 7 ½. Then Miss Peggy Conley, of the United States, defeated Mrs. Margaret Pickard, 1 up, to put the Americans ahead. Miss Mary Lou Dill followed with a 4- and- 2 victory over Mrs. Ann Howard, and finally Miss Phyllis Preuss defeated Miss Bridget Jackson, 2 and 1.

Miss Ann Irwin was outstanding for the British Isles, and Miss Preuss had the best record for the United States. Both won 3 ½ of a possible 4 points. This was the United States' 11th victory in 14 matches. Non- playing captains were Mrs. S.M. Bolton for the British Isles and Mrs. Robert M. Monsted, for the United States.
