| The United States Team scored a
decisive 8- 1 victory over the British Isles at he Broadmoor
Golf Club, Colorado Springs, Colo. Mrs. Alastair Frearson earned
the only point for the visitors by defeating Miss Judy Bell,
8 and 7, after the Americans had won all three foursomes matches.
The Americans, five of whom were members of the victorious 1960
Team, scored remarkably low on a course considered to be a very
severe test for women.
Mrs. Anne Quast Decker, the United States Champion, was
credited with a 74 in the morning round of her singles and
then played the first nine holes in the afternoon in 36; Mrs.
Decker and Miss Bvarbara McIntire produced a 74 in the fousomes;
Miss Phyllis Preuss scored 75 in singles; Miss Clifford Anne
Creed a 76. The British side was largely the product of a
training program sponsored by the Ladies' Golf Union for juniors.
Five of the eight British players were new to Curtis Cup competition;
three were still in their teens. The non- playing Captains
were Mrs. Frances Stephens Smith for the British Isles and
Miss Polly Riley for the United States.
