1st Black African wins Nobel Peace Prize

The United States team won the Curtis Cup for the first time sine 1954 in scoring a victory by 6 ½ to 2 ½. The Match was played at the Lindrick Golf Club, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England. The Americans took a 2- 1 lead in foursomes and went on to win four singles and halve another.

In the singles, Miss JoAnne Gunderson defeated Mrs. Angela Ward Bonallack, 2 and 1; Miss Anne Quast defeated Miss Janette Robertson, 2 up; Miss Judy Eller defeated Miss Philomena Garvey, 4 and 3; Miss Judy Bell defeated Miss Belle McCorkindale, 8 and 7; and Miss Barbara McIntire and Miss Elizabeth Price were all even after 36 holes. A gallery estimated at 12,000 viewed the last day's singles competition.
