| The United States regained the Curtis
Cup at the East Course of the Merion Golf Club, Ardmore, Pa.,
in early September. The Americans won the three foursomes and
went on to score a 6- 3 triumph. Miss Frances Stephens, then
the British Women's Amateur Champion, won a point for her side
with a 1- up victory over Miss Mary Lena Faulk, the 1953 United
States Women's Amateur Champion. Miss Faulk, 1 down, scored
a birdie 2 on the 35th hole to tie the match, but Miss Stephens
came back to hole a 24- foot putt on the 36th green to decide
it. |
