| After a lapse of 10 years because
of World War II, the Curtis Cup series was resumed in May with
the United States winning, 6 ½ to 2 ½, for its fourth victory
in the five matches to date. The Americans held a 2- 1 edge
after the foursomes and then won four singles matches and halved
another.
One of the high points came when Miss Louise Suggs, the
American Champion, climaxed an uphill battle by winning the
final two holes to halve her match with Miss Philomena Garvey.
America's highly regarded partners in foursomes, Miss Suggs
and Miss Grace Lenczyk, were upset by Miss Jacqueline Gordon
and Miss Jean Donald, 3 and 2. The Match was played over two
days at the Birkdale Golf Club, Birkdale, England.
